The University of Waterloo offers a scholarship for international students who are applying for research-based master’s programs. This scholarship gives $2,500 for each term, and students can receive it for up to five terms. If you want to apply, make sure to submit your application by June 1, 2025. The number of scholarships available may change depending on the faculty’s funding. Eligible Countries Open to all international students
Courses/Subjects Any subject in a research-based graduate program at the University of Waterloo
Eligibility Criteria – Must be an international student registered full-time and paying international tuition fees.
– Should be starting the first term of a research-based program (thesis or major research paper).
– Must show excellent academic performance in the admission application.
– Must meet academic progress standards and have no pending admission conditions.
– Cannot receive funding from foreign government or agency sponsorships (e.g., China Scholarship Council, Libyan sponsorship).
– Not for students in the IMSA program, but previous IMSA recipients may apply for a new master’s program.

How to Apply

Students don’t have to apply separately for the IMAE. If you meet the criteria, you will be considered automatically when you apply for a research-based master’s program. Each department will review the applications and choose recipients based on the requirements set for the award.

Benefits

The International Master’s Award of Excellence offers $2,500 per term for a maximum of five full-time terms, totaling $12,500. It recognizes academic excellence and provides financial support to enhance the learning experience.
